Benefit to be held for Northrop student paralyzed in ski accident

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Noah Barbknecht, a freshman at Northrop High School, was paralyzed from the breast bone down after a skiing accident in Mount Snow, Vermont on Christmas Eve.

Noah is currently being cared for at the Albany Medical Center Children's Hospital in New York. His Facebook page , which includes updates on his condition, said he can move his arms.

A benefit for Noah will be held on Saturday, February 9 at Ceruti's Summit Park at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $30. The event will feature live entertainment, heavy hors d'oeurves, a cash bar, and a silent auction. Jim Shovlin, Sports Anchor at 1190 AM WOWO will be emceeing the event.

Noah's football coach, Tim Martone, and Stephanie McCullough, who is organizing Noah's benefit, joined Drew Blair on First News Sunday to discuss the benefit. To watch the interview, click on the video tab above.

So far, Noah's fundraising website has raised $7,425. The goal is to raise $50,000 to cover Noah's medical costs.

Noah's teammates also collected money from fans during the Northrop boys and girls basketball games on January 4.
