HELMBER, Ind. (WANE) - A hog roast in Helmer Saturday night raised money to help the family of a Hamilton High School student.
Parker Minier, 17, was in a traffic accident last November . Originally doctors thought his chance of survival was slim. But, to their surprise, he started improving. Now doctors think he may even make a full recovery.
Saturday's benefit raised money to help cover the family's medical costs.
"You don't realize what a close-knit family and community we have until something like this happens. We've had other issues in our family where people have had accidents and we all just pull together. The whole community is just great. It's just a great turnout," Lila Smith, Parker's aunt, said.
Parker still has a long road ahead of him. He's being moved to a hospital in Indianapolis for more intensive physical and brain rehab.
