BBB warns of computer repair scam

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)  The Better Business Bureau is warning about a scam being reported by people in northern Indiana.

Consumers are receiving calls from imposter companies, claiming to be from Google or Microsoft. The callers are telling individuals that viruses have been detected on their computers and that the service they provide is to remove these pesky concerns. Then they request that the infected computer be turned on and to follow their directions. This is how they gain access into individuals' computers. They are NOT truly from Google or Microsoft.

One caller reported that she had fallen for this Internet security scam last year. The same people contacted her stating that they were from the BBB, that the scammers had been brought to justice, and that they were contacting her to award her the money back plus $100. All she needed to do was to go to her computer and to give them access to it. She did not fall for the scam a second time.
