FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - The Better Business Bureau has reported two different scams in the Fort Wayne area, one involving Medicare and the other involving payday loans.
The BBB said a caller with a thick, foreign accent is calling people from a 409 area code and claims to be issuing new Medicare or Social Security cards.
This scam is an attempt to obtain banking account or credit card information.
The BBB encourages you to hang up on the caller and to never give out any personal banking information over the phone.
The other scam involves a person pretending to be an agent from Payday Loans of America.
The BBB said this person indicates to the loan seeker that they are eligible for a $5,000 Payday loan, in exchange for $340. The catch is this money must be paid by Green Dot Money Pak, which is a method used by scammers to subvert law enforcement efforts in catching them.
Once the money is sent, the agent will claim a problem occurred with the transaction and that an additional $190 is required.
The BBB urges people to be careful when providing your email, address, and phone number to a company.
