AUBURN, Ind. (WANE) - The Auburn Police Department had a huge garage sale Sunday.

People in the community donated items to sell at the fairgrounds to raise money for the Shop with a Cop program.

“I’m impressed. Everyone that’s helped is impressed with it and there’s been people coming by even though they don’t buy something and put money in the jar and say I hope these kids have a good Christmas and that means a lot to us,” said Corporal Chad Weimer, Auburn Police Department.

The program helps underprivileged families buy Christmas presents. The department visits local churches before picking a family to help. This year they will probably pick two families.

“It’s a very rewarding at the end of the year to take these little kids out shopping. They’ve never had that experience to go out and actually buy things they want to have for Christmas. So at the end of the night, I go home with a big smile on my face knowing that I’ve helped these kids and their Christmas,” said Corporal Weimer.
