Aqua Indiana changes its mind on voluntary water use reduction request

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Aqua Indiana issued a request Thursday afternoon for its customers in Aboite Township to reduce lawn watering through June 18, however a short time later the water utility decided to sit on that request until sometime next week.  A reason for the change was not given.

In its original release, Aqua indicated it had been able to meet the demand for water, but if water use continued at the current rate there was concern that the system would not be able to maintain adequate water pressure for its customers and for fire protection needs.

Aqua indicated it would re-evaluate its lawn watering reduction request on a weekly basis and might continue to ask for water-conservation efforts if high demand continued.

The request would have only affected Aqua Indiana's Aboite Township customers.  The City of Fort Wayne told NewsChannel 15 on Wednesday that right now there are  no plans to ask for customers to cut back on water  usage, but if the drought continues, that is a possibility.
