Aqua Indiana asks customers to cut back on lawn watering

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Aqua Indiana has issued another notice regarding what it would like its Aboite Township customers in Allen County to do as it pertains to water conservation.

The water utility is asking people to cut back on watering their lawns through Thursday, June 14.  The conservation request is a precaution because of the drought conditions much of the area is experiencing.

“While our wells and treatment plants are operating well, we ask that our customers curtail lawn-watering to maintain dependable supplies of water throughout the system at all times,” said Tom Bruns, Aqua Indiana president.

The utility is concerned that if usage continues at the current rate, its system may not be able to maintain adequate water pressure.

Aqua also is asking customers to conserve water in other ways, such as taking shorter showers and limiting car washes.

On Thursday the utility made a similar request of customers that would run through June 18.  However,  within an hour or so of issuing that request, Aqua decided to "sit on" the decision until sometime next week.  Apparently Aqua decided not to wait until next week to make the request.

The City of Fort Wayne has not issued any water conservation requests and has plans in place in case the drought continues or worsens.
