FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Aqua Indiana has extended the voluntary ban on lawn watering until Thursday, June 21.
On June 8, Aqua Indiana initially issued a notice asking Aboite Township customers in Allen County to reduce water consumption until June 14. The conservation request was prompted by the drought conditions much of the area is experiencing.
The utility is concerned that if usage continues at the current rate, its system may not be able to maintain adequate water pressure.
Aqua also is asking customers to conserve water in other ways, such as taking shorter showers and limiting car washes.
The City of Fort Wayne has not issued any water conservation requests and has plans in place in case the drought continues or worsens.
