FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - The wait is over for thousands of Apple fans. The iPhone 5 went on sale Friday morning. In Fort Wayne, the Verizon and AT&T stores opened at 8 a.m. with extra staff on hand to handle the crowds.
NewsChannel 15's Alyssa Ivanson was at the Verizon store just before the store opened and about two dozen people were already lined up. The AT&T on Lima Road had about 15 people in line before the store opened.
Preorders for the new phone sold out in less than 24 hours. That's more than 2 million phones. But, Apple says pre-orders of the phone won't ship for three to four weeks because of high demand.
Apple unveiled the iPhone 5 September 12. It has several different features including a slightly larger screen, a faster processor, and a smaller dock connector.
