ANGOLA, Ind. (WANE) - A fire in Angola killed one person Monday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to the fire at 809 Growth Parkway around 3:15 p.m.

Herbert P. Sanders, 81, Angola was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials said Sanders was trapped inside the residence. Extreme heat and heavy smoke did not allow firefighters enough time to rescue the man.

Eventually, firefighters were able to pull Sanders from the home.

The fire was contained to the living room and kitchen area of the residence.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
