Allen Co. Sheriff's Department K-9 Academy Graduation

ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) - The Allen County Sheriff's Department held their K-9 graduation ceremony Friday morning.

Allen County Sheriff's Department Master K-9 Trainer, Robert Compton, Captain Shawn Lawhorn, Sheriff Ken Fries, and Chief David Gladieux presented certificates to seven graduating K-9 academy officers and their dogs in the Allen County Courthouse Rotunda.

The K-9s participated in a 14-week training course and are now certified in the areas of:

  • Obedience Control
  • Evidence Search
  • Area Search
  • Building Search
  • Tracking and the Detection of Marijuana
  • Cocaine
  • Heroin
  • Methamphetamine
  • Ecstasy

The following officers graduated Friday:

  • Officer Darren Coburn and K-9 Musashi Miyamoto (Sashi) (Allen County Sheriff's Department)
  • Officer Trenton Crooks and K-9 Jax (Angola City Police Department)
  • Officer Shay A. Beaver and K-9 Vary (Decatur Police Department)
  • Officer Theodore F. Trupp and K-9 Barron (Dayton, Ohio Police Department)
  • Officer David W. Hunter and K-9 Zeke (Allen County Community Corrections)
  • Officer Robert L. Cleaver and K-9 Phantom (Dayton, Ohio Police Department)
  • Officer Kevin Peeper and K-9 Wrigley (Garrett Police Department)
