FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - The Big Brothers Big Sisters Student Organization of IPFW hosted the Race for Kids' Sake on Saturday, October 20. The 5K run and walk took place on the IPFW campus.

NewsChannel 15's Alyssa Ivanson participated in the race and presented the awards. She is a Big Sister and was recently awarded Big Sister of the Year.

The proceeds from the Race for Kids' Sake benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters, a program that helps children reach their potential through professionally supported, one-to-one mentoring relationships with measurable impact. Programs include Community-Based Mentoring, School Buddies: Bigs in Schools, Real Men Read, College Success Mentors and First Friends Mentoring.

"Get people outdoors, moving for the 5k and enjoy working with our healthy lifestyles encouraging those with our Littles and our Bigs as well as the community. And maybe make a little money on the side with the fundraiser for the 5K, John Drebenstedt, the race organizer, said.

This was the first year for the Race for Kids' Sake.
