New Playground in Decatur

MOPS group raises money for upgrades

DECATUR, Ind. (WANE) - On Monday new playground equipment was added to American Legion Park.  All thanks to MOPS, Mothers of Pre-Schoolers.  Just about one year ago they came up with the idea to bring a larger park to Decatur, rather than to take their kids to a different city to play.  With the help of local businesses and other donations, they were able to rase over $40,000 in less than a year.

The new larger jungle gym was installed Monday morning, but more is on the way.  A new set of swings will be installed soon.  The original swings have been taken out and the merry-go-round and original slide are still in place.

This is a great addition to Decatur, as there are no larger parks in the area.  While the bulk of the equipment is in, there is still more to be done.  The group would like to see a few more things put into the park like benches, and curbing is needed around the playground to hold in the woodchips.

More information on the MOPS group can be found here or search "A Place To Play" on Facebook.  Donations to the project can be sent Attn. MOPS, 502 W. Monroe St., Decatur, IN  46733
