FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a fire at the 6100-block of Hazlett Road around noon on Tuesday.
The fire was called in at 12:07, it took fire crews about 4 minutes to arrive on the scene and in about 20 minutes they had the fire under control.
According to fire officials on the scene, it appeared that the fire started due to the improper disposal of ashes from a wood burner. The ashes were in a bucket outside that was apparently too close to the house.
The exterior back wall of the house sustained some fire damage and the interior of the home had some smoke and water damage.
No one was home at the time of the fire.
Crews had closed Hazlett Rd. as they worked to get the fire under control.
The Fort Wayne Fire Department said the fire is under investigation.
