Ribbons from Peace - Peace Montessori School
Peace Montessori School began selling "Ribbons from Peace" as a fundraiser to support families in Newtown, Connecticut that lost loved ones in Friday's tragedy.
The green and white ribbons, Sandy Hook's school colors, are being sold for $5 each. Students hope to sell at least 100 and send $500 to Sandy Hook Families. Money raised will be sent to the Newtown Youth and Family Services via Caroline’s Gift. This organization will establish which families are in need of financial assistance.
The school's press releases stated "Many of our children have expressed sadness and concern for the families in Connecticut. They felt that they wanted to 'do something to help them.' That is exactly what they are doing."
Ribbons will be sold during arrivals in the morning and during dismissals in the afternoon.
Making Snowflakes at North Adams Community Schools
Students in North Adams Community Schools will be making snowflakes, per a request by Sandy Hook Parent-Teacher groups. The Connecticut PTSA asked for help in setting up a winter wonderland for Sandy Hook students at their new school. They encourage creativity. Snowflakes can be mailed in to the following address by January 12, 2013:
Connecticut PTSA
60 Connolly Parkway
Building 12, Suite 103
Hamden, CT 06514
The North Adams Parent Teacher Organization is responding to the Connecticut request for snowflakes. They are organizing a community-wide effort at the Cornerstone Community Church. From 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, North Adams families and others are invited to attend to make snowflakes for the children of Sandy Hook Elementary.
