FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Fresh off their recent gold medal performances at the 2010 World Choir Games in China, the Voices of Unity Choir was honored Friday by the Allen County Board of Commissioners and City of Fort Wayne officials at a special ceremony.
Commissioners presented a proclamation to the group recognizing July 30, 2010, as “Voices of Unity Choir Day” in Allen County.
“The accomplishments of the Voices of Unity Choir have brought great honor and distinction not only to themselves, but to Allen County, Fort Wayne and northeast Indiana and have made this group of young people a shining example for all,” Commissioner Nelson Peters Bloom said.
The Voices of Unity Choir was awarded a gold medal in the Popular Choral Music category and also received a gold medal and was named Grand Champion in the Gospel and Spiritual Category.
They are the first choir from Indiana to have been invited to participate in what’s described as the “Olympics of Choral Music.” They competed against 400 other choirs from more than 90 countries.
