FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Fort Wayne is one of 34 cities nationwide to host the Great Prostate Cancer Challenge, a 5K run and walk.
The event will raise money for ZERO, a national campaign to reduce deaths from prostate cancer to zero. The money will be used for research, free prostate cancer screenings, and advocacy.
More than half of the proceeds from the Fort Wayne run/walk will remain in the community. Some of the proceeds from last year’s event were just used to fund a day long prostate cancer screening at Walgreens, Village at Coventry store, using the ZERO mobile screening bus. Some 80 men had a free digital rectal exam and PSA test to screen for prostate cancer.
The Second Annual Great Prostate Cancer Challenge will take place at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13. with registration in the Portage Middle School parking lot.
The course will lead participants through the Wildwood Park neighborhood and Rockhill Park.
The entry fee is $25 for adults and $18 for people 17 and under. The fee includes a timing chip, long-sleeve technical shirt, and pancake breakfast following the race.
