FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - The Air Force Office of Special Investigations (OSI) have a Jay County man in custody, who is accused of killing his 15-month-old son.

Matthew Theurer, a 2009 graduate of Jay County High School, is waiting his pre-trial confinement at the Sampson County Confinement Facility in North Carolina.

According to a spokesperson with the OSI, Theurer is facing charges of murder, voluntary manslaughter, and negligent homicide in connection with the death of the son who is also named Matthew.

Multiple television news stations in North Carolina reported that authorities are conducting an investigation at the Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, where Theurer was stationed as a Senior Airman.  The child's body was found Tuesday afternoon in a wooded area nearly 100 miles away from the base.

Amy Theurer, the mother of the 15-month-old, told NewsChannel 15 Wednesday that local police showed up at her Portland, Indiana home late Tuesday night to inform her that her son was found deceased and that her estranged husband was in custody.

A spokesperson with the OSI, which is leading the investigation, said the autopsy results for Matthew are pending.
