STEUBEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) - U.S. Olympic Gold Medalist and northeast Indiana native, Lloy Ball was arrested Saturday night for operating while intoxicated.

According to the Steuben County Sheriff's Department, Ball was arrested just before midnight near the State Road 727 and Lake James Lane intersection, near Pokagon State Park and booked into the Steuben County Jail.

According to sources, Ball was driving home from a wine tasting event in Clear Lake and had a blood alcohol content of .13.

NewsChannel 15 was told Ball's wife was also in the vehicle at the time of the arrest and under the influence as well.  She, however, was allowed to call for someone to pick her up.

According to the Steuben County Prosecutor's Office, Ball will be charged with Operating While Intoxicated; Endangering Someone, a Class A misdemeanor that is punishable up to one year in jail, $5,000 in fines and the loss of a driver's licence.

Ball was also charged with Operating with a Blood Alcohol Content of at least. 08, a Class C misdemeanor, punishable up to 60 days in jail, $500 in fine and the loss of a license.

Even if Ball is found guilty of both offences, the prosecutor's office said he would only receive the punishment for one of the charges.

Ball was the captain of the gold medal-winning volleyball team in the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing and selected as “Most Valuable Player” and “Best Setter” by FIVB World League.

He attended Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne from 1991-1995.
