ANGOLA, Ind. (WANE) - The cool temperatures and high winds didn't deter people from hitting the campsites Labor Day weekend.  Many of them have been booked for months.  Officials at Pokagan State Park in Angola, Indiana said all 278 campsites were full Saturday.  Potowatomi Inn has even been booked for Labor Day weekend, 2011.

But there weren't as many boats out on Lake James in northeast Indiana Saturday.  The beaches were fairly empty considering the holiday weekend.  Fort Wayne resident David Kirke was one of the only people to ditch the flip flops and hit the sandy shore Saturday afternoon, looking to catch some rays.

"I was hoping there would be more people at the beach," said Kirke.  "There might be more this afternoon.  It's still early."

The windy conditions weren't drawing in many fishermen either.  One family bundled up from head to toe said they had hardly seen anyone on the shores of Lake James.

"It's nice weather but it's not good fishing weather," said Saint Joe resident Julie Rotz.

A full park but empty beaches meant jam-packed trails Saturday.  Many folks used hiking and biking as an alternative to spending time on the lakes.

Pokagan park interpreter Fred Wooley said he's not surprised the weather hasn't deterred folks from campsites.  Folks have been filling the parks all summer in record numbers.

"The month of July in 2010 was the busiest month ever at the Potawatomi Inn in its over 80 years of history," said Wooley.
