FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Republican strategist Karl Rove visited Fort Wayne on Sunday. The former White House political adviser to President George W. Bush signed copies of his memoir, "Courage and Consequence" at the Meijer store on Lima Road in Fort Wayne until around noon.
Karl Rove said his memoir, 'Courage and Consequence' draws from his nearly seven year tenure in the White House.
"I wanted it to be authentic and honest and durable, so I was as candid and as frank a I possibly could be," said Rove.
Rove took the opportunity in his book to set the record straight on the Bush Administration, especially its role in the War on Terror.
"To draw back the curtain and to tell people how we actually got there and what we actually did once we got there," said Rove.
His Fort Wayne book signing drew hundreds of people, many waited in line hours ahead of time.
People had a lot of different reasons for standing in the line that traveled the aisles of Meijer. Some were buying father's day gifts, adding to memorabilia collections, but most people were there to meet a man they respect.
"I think he's very honorable and very personable with his people," said Corbin Knollman.
"I think we need voices like his out there. Voices of reason," Frank Fuller.
Off his book tour, Rove works as a political analyist for Fox News and the Wall Street Journal.
Many waiting in line to meet Mr. Rove expressed interest in the strategist taking office. His response?
"Hey man, no!" said Rove.
Rove said his book should open minds to the accomplishments made by the Bush Administration as well as regrets.
"No administration gets it all right. We're human beings and we ask of our President and the people who surround him super human results but it's just not possible," said Rove.
And when it comes to this current administration? Karl Rove expresses disappointment in many of President Barack Obama's moves. "He made promises about bipartisan nature of his leadership that he simply has not lived up to."
He'll then travel to Noblesville for a book signing at a Borders store there at 6 p.m.
