FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - The Indiana State Police and 250 agencies from around the state are encouraging motorists to following police warnings and directions, and to use common sense and have patience while on the road, specifically over the Labor Day holiday weekend.

State Police are participating in a state-wide campaign called “Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest.” Last year, over 8,800 alcohol related crashes happened in Indiana alone.

The campaign was designed to raise awareness about the dangers and consequences of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

Police are anticipating a high volume of traffic in and around Auburn, Indiana this weekend as well. The Auburn Fall Collector Car Auction will be held at the Auburn Auction Park Thursday through Sunday.

“Our hope is to get four lanes of traffic running toward the park with one actually going into the park and the other three lanes going off toward the south to the paid parking area,” said Sgt. Ron Galaviz.

Galaviz also cautioned motorists to watch speed limits in the construction zones that surround the Auburn Auction Park. The speed limit is usually 70mph, but while under construction is labeled as a 45mph zone.
