FREMONT, Ind. (WANE) - The Fremont Fire Department responded to a house fire at 5855 E 540 N in Fremont, Indiana around 2pm Wednesday.  First arriving units found heavy smoke coming from the second story of the residence.

Fire had spread from the first floor through the walls into the second floor and attic area. Crews were able to make entry into the first floor and got the fire under control.

Assisted at the Scene were the Clear Lake Police Department, Steuben County EMS, and REMC. The Angola Fire Department was called up on standby to cover Fremont Station.  A wood burner is to blame for causing the fire.  There's about $20,000 worth of damage done to the home.
