INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- The Republican Party's pick for Indiana's 2nd District has avoided tea party talk in her few minutes in the national spotlight at the Republican National Convention.
Jackie Walorski used her speech Tuesday to argue that Indiana's work on its state budget in the last eight years should be a national model.
Walorski's speech is part of a new tack in her run to win the seat being vacated by Democratic U.S. Rep. Joe Donnelly. Walorski's first campaign ad claimed she was a bipartisan operator in the Indiana General Assembly. That's in contrast to 2010, when she harnessed tea party discontent to nearly knock off Donnelly.
Walorski's Democratic opponent, Brendan Mullen, says despite her claims otherwise, Walorski's Tampa appearance proves her partisan nature. Mullen says he's skipping the Democratic National Convention.
