DILLEY, TX (WANE) – A man wanted for not registering as a sex offender in Steuben County, was issued a formal federal arrest warrant on Friday January 13.
On January 6 NewsChannel 15 told you Edwward W. Lucerno, 23, was found in Dilley, Texas on January 4 and taken into custody by US Marshals.
Dilley, Texas is located between San Antonio and Laredo.
According to the Steuben County Sheriff, Tim Troyer, Edward W. Lucerno was wanted not only for the sex offender registry violation in Steuben County, but for a probation violation after being convicted of sexual misconduct with a minor in Noble County.
Steuben sheriff’s detectives launched an investigation in December of 2011 after receiving information that Lucerno was working and possibly living in the county without registering as sex offender with the sheriff’s department.
Detectives eventually reached out to the US Marshals Service Northern District of Indiana and Southwest Texas for assistance, which led to Lucerno’s arrest.
Lucerno was still in custody in Texas on Wednesday January 18; he was awaiting extradition back to Noble County with additional charges expected to be filed in Steuben County.
Police said the US Marshals Service will also submit information to the US Attorney’s Office for a possible federal indictment regarding an alleged violation of the Adam Walsh Act, which made it a federal felony offense for failing to register as a sex offender as required by Sex Offender Registration Notification Act.
