TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Authorities say a Terre Haute police officer and a person being served an arrest warrant have died during a gun battle at a home in the western Indiana city.
Asst. Terre Haute Police Chief Shawn Keen says Officer Brent Long died of wounds sustained during the shooting Monday afternoon on the city's north side.
The name of the dead gunman wasn't immediately released. Keen says Long was a six-year police veteran.
Indiana State Police Sgt. Joe Watts says Keen and his K-9 police were among a team of state, federal and local officers serving the arrest warrant when gunfire erupted within seconds of when they entered the home. The dog also was shot and was being treated.
