Stage collapse victims get more relief

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- The attorney general's office is sending out checks for a total of $6 million to 59 victims of 2011's deadly Indiana State Fair stage collapse.

That's the amount of supplemental relief that was approved earlier this year by the General Assembly. The state had already paid out $5 million, which is the limit for tort claims under Indiana law.

Attorney General Greg Zoeller announced the payments Thursday.

Zoeller says the second round of state payments pays off the medical expenses for all the victims whose injuries weren't permanent. Expenses through Nov. 15, 2011, have been paid for those who were paralyzed or require long-term care.

An arbitration panel awarded the individual amounts based on need and degree of injury.
  
The August 2011 accident killed seven people and injured 60 others.
