INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Funeral services were held Monday for Dion and Jennifer Longworth, the couple killed in last week’s south side explosion.
The service began at 10 a.m. at St. Barnabas Catholic Church. The parking lot was so full there wasn’t enough room for everyone. Cars lined up bumper-to-bumper in surrounding neighborhood streets.
Jennifer Longworth taught second grade at Southwest Elementary School for the past 12 years. Each Christmas she used to give her students hand knitted gifts — hats and scarves that she made herself. The school closed for the day so teachers and students could attend the funeral service.
Her husband Dion was into technology and electronics and had worked at Indy Audio Labs as the director of product development and technology.
The site of the funeral was a special place for the couple. St. Barnabas Catholic Church is where they got married.
The investigation into the cause of the explosion is still ongoing.
Public Safety Director Troy Riggs says investigators have recovered items that could hold the answer. This weekend, more manpower was added to the investigative team, and more machinery was brought in to examine the debris.
