LAKE JAMES, Ind. (KPC News) — Police are investigating a possible murder near the Lake James-Snow Lake area, neighbors said.

One of the neighbors, Stacy Pingry, was contacted by police to see if she had seen anything happening at her next door neighbor’s.

Pingry said police told her they believed her neighbor was dead as the result of foul play.
Later, a child of the deceased showed up and Pingry’s children heard him cry out.

“All the kids heard him screaming, ‘why’d he kill my mom,’” Pingry said.

As police were investigating the scene, Pingry said she saw the man who lived next door drive by slowly. She told police he was the man police were looking for.

“They told him to stop, but he took off,” Pingry said.

The man was stopped a short distance later by police in two vehicles who chased him.

Another neighbor, Lisa Rumsey, said she was contacted by police today at 10:30 a.m., wanting to know if she knew of the whereabouts of her next door neighbor in the 6400 block of N. C.R. 300W. She was informed that the death was possibly the result of a fight.

“That’s what we’re understanding, it was a domestic dispute,” Rumsey said.

Pingry said police were not certain as to when the incident occurred. She said she had not seen her neighbor for a couple days.

“They’re not sure if it happened today or if it happened yesterday,” Pingry said.

Attempts to contact Steuben County Sheriff Tim Troyer have been unsuccessful.

The incident appears to be the second murder in Steuben County in 10 days. On June 3, a man was murdered in rural Angola in an alleged dispute over a drug deal.
