KOSCIUSKO COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) - Kosciusko County Sheriff’s deputies rescued a Warsaw man from a burning home on Chapman Lake on Sunday night.

Police said Michael Fremault lit his house on fire intentionally to commit suicide.

A deputy went to the front door of Fremault's house and saw him standing inside, he then ran upstairs to the core of the fire and told the deputy to "come and get him."

Fremault fell to the ground due to the fire and toxic smoke when he got upstairs and the deputy had to drag him down the stairs and take him outside.

Fremault then began to fight back so officers placed him in the back of a squad car until the E.M.S. arrived.

Police said Fremault told the officers that he wanted to commit suicide and appeared to be drunk.

Fremault was taken to the Bowen Center for a 72 hour mental evaluation.
