INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Gov. Mike Pence is talking to opponents of his call for a 10 percent cut in Indiana's personal income tax.
Pence planned to speak Tuesday at a Statehouse gathering of the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns . Local leaders have emerged as the staunchest opponents of Pence's tax cut, saying the money would be better spent on much-needed road repairs.
The state is facing a local road funding gap of more than $200 million per year. House lawmakers rewrote Pence's budget last month to exclude the tax cut and spend $250 million more annually on local roads.
The budget is now being debated in the state Senate.
