INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Republican Mike Pence is looking to hold off Democrat John Gregg and extend his party's control of the Indiana governor's office.
The GOP also is aiming to strengthen its General Assembly dominance and see Attorney General Greg Zoeller and state schools superintendent Tony Bennett win re-election.
Pence is looking to succeed Republican Gov. Mitch Daniels , who's leaving office after eight years. Gregg is a former Indiana House speaker who says he would bring a bipartisan approach to the governor's office.
That likely would be necessary if Gregg were to win since Republicans entered Tuesday's election with a shot at capturing a two-thirds majority in the Indiana House. That would allow them to ignore boycotts like those by Democrats the past two years in protest of the right-to-work law.
