MERRILLVILLE, Ind. (WANE) - Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) has launched a program that allows customers to purchase renewable energy.
The Green Power Program allows customers to designate a portion, or all, of their monthly electric usage to be attributable to power generated by renewable energy sources, such as wind power.
The program is a voluntary and available to all NIPSCO customers.
NIPSCO’s green power rate is $0.002163 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), as shown here:
Green Power Designation Monthly Premium (Based on monthly electric usage of 1,000 kWh)
25% $0.54
50% $1.08
100% $2.16
NIPSCO said customers can donate 25, 50, or 100 percent of their monthly electric usage to be attributable to power generated by renewable energy sources.
According to NIPSCO officials, customers who participate in the program will pay a monthly premium in addition to their standard, regulated electric rate.
Commercial and industrial customers will can also be able to designate five or 10 percent of their monthly usage. Customers can change their participation level or cancel at any time at no added cost.
NIPSCO’s green power purchases through this program will come from Midwestern resources.
