DNR GiveIN Game program connects deer hunters and those who need food

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WANE) - The GiveIN Game program, formed by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, connects Hoosier deer hunters with those in need of meat.

GiveIN Game is a free donation program run by the DNR to help families in need. Successful hunters who have extra deer meat give this meat to feed families lacking sufficient protein in their diets.

In Indiana, selling, bartering, or trading venison is prohibited.

The program is entering its second season. Last deer hunting season, GiveIN Game had 702 participants. It is estimated that 90 percent of last year's participants are signing up again this year.

“GiveIN Game is a great way to connect people in local communities who are looking for a healthy alternative source of protein,” said Chad Stewart, DNR deer research biologist.

Registration for the second season of the GiveIN Game program begins on September 1. You can register for the program by clicking here .
