NORMAN, Ind. (AP) -- A friend of a Marine from southern Indiana who died in Afghanistan says he had talked for years about following his father into the military.
The Department of Defense says 21-year-old Lance Cpl. Hunter Hogan died Saturday during combat operations in Helmand province. Hogan was from the Jackson County community of Norman and a 2009 graduate of Brownstown Central High School.
Chase Plumer tells The Tribune of Seymour (http://bit.ly/Q8lNQc ) that Hogan started saying when they were high school sophomores that he would join the Marines. Plumer says his friend insisted on signing up for the infantry even with the war continuing in Afghanistan.
Plumer says Hogan also was a rodeo rider as they were growing up.
Hogan was based at North Carolina's Camp Lejeune.
