FULTON COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) - A Logansport man died Saturday after trying rescue a dog that had jumped out of a boat in a Fulton County lake.
According to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Michael Rorison and a friend had gone for a boat ride in Fletcher Lake around 4:30 p.m. when shortly before 6 p.m., their dog jumped from the boat and into the water.
When Rorison jumped in after the dog, he apparently had some sort of difficulty swimming and asked his friend to throw him a life jacket, but he was unable to reach it.
Conservation officers said Rorison slipped under the water and was found around 10 p.m. in about 30 feet down using sonar technology.
The cause of Rorison’s death is unknown pending an autopsy scheduled for Sunday afternoon.
