Kids try for world's largest swim lesson

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Swimmers in Fort Wayne and Shipshewana joined forces to help make history on Thursday as they took part in the world's largest swim lesson.

The Guinness Book of World Records' largest swim lesson was started two years ago to build awareness about the importance of teaching children to swim, and prevent drowning.

Last year, more than 20,000 across the globe took part in the effort that was started to awareness about the importance of teaching kids to swim to prevent drowning. 

Drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages one to five.

This year, South Side High School in Fort Wayne and Splash Universe in Shipshewana were both host sites for the event.
