INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Indiana's first lady is expected to make a full recovery after gallbladder surgery on Thursday.
Karen Pence required emergency surgery to remove her gallbladder after developing abdominal pain on Wednesday. The surgery was performed at Naab Road Surgery Center on the north side.
Much of Gov. Mike Pence's schedule was canceled for Thursday because of the surgery.
Officials with the governor's office said Thursday afternoon that the surgery was complete and Karen Pence was going to recover at home over the weekend and resume activities sometime next week.
"Karen and I are both grateful for the prayers and concern expressed by so many Hoosiers over the past 24 hours and for the professionalism of the medical personnel who diagnosed and performed her surgery," Gov. Pence said in a news release. "We are all fortunate to have such dedicated health care professionals serving the people of Indiana."
Gov. Pence was scheduled to visit Jeffersonville and Evansville Thursday, including tours of a bridge project and the University of Southern Indiana. He will be the keynote speaker at the Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce dinner Thursday night as planned.
