MERRILLVILLE, Ind. (AP) - One of the people injured when a pedestrian bridge in northwestern Indiana collapsed after a fireworks show has sued the township government.
The Times of Munster reports Treneice Campbell, 37, of Gary
filed the lawsuit Wednesday along with her husband.
Campbell reportedly suffered spinal and leg fractures.
Campbell's attorney, Kenneth J. Allen, says it is
"inexcusable" an estimated 100 people were allowed on a bridge that
wasn't supposed to hold more than 40.
The lawsuit names Ross Township and township trustee John
Rooda as defendants and seeks a total of $5.5 million.
About 50 people were spilled into a lake when the bridge
collapsed Saturday night.
A message seeking comment was left Wednesday for Rooda at
his township office.
