INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (AP) - An Indianapolis letter carrier has been shot in the face after confronting a fleeing bank robber.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police say postman Robert Norman is in serious but stable condition at an Indianapolis hospital after the Thursday afternoon shooting outside a Chase bank branch on the city's southwest side.
Lt. Jeffrey Duhamell says Norman was aware a bank robbery had just occurred and confronted the robber before being shot.
The robber jumped into an SUV and fled the scene but wrecked the vehicle a short time later and was taken into custody. He also has been hospitalized. Police haven't released him name.
Postal Service spokeswoman Kim Yates says Norman has 29 years' experience as a postman.
