INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WANE) -  The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute, along with the Indiana Supreme Court and the Indiana Department of Correction, is adding three new sites to the statewide Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative.

Clark, Elkhart, and Howard counties are the latest additions to the Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative .

JDAI is a national juvenile justice system reform initiative aimed at improving outcomes for children who come into contact with the juvenile justice system. Johnson, Lake, Marion, Porter, and Tippecanoe counties are already JDAI sites in Indiana.

These five counties have implemented system reforms that are beginning to show a reduction in their juvenile detention and incarceration rates, as well as maintaining and enhancing public safety.

By the end of 2012, JDAI will be implemented in 200 jurisdictions throughout 39 states and the District of Columbia.
