GEIST, Ind. (WISH/AP) - The Fishers Fire Department and a nearby neighbor helped rescue an ice fisherman after he fell through the ice and into Geist Reservoir Monday morning.
Crews were called out to the scene by a neighbor who heard Thomas Kolbus screaming for help as he was leaving for work at around 7 a.m.
Once crews arrived at the scene, it took about 12 minutes for Kolbus to be pulled to safety. Kolbus was about 100 feet from the shore.
Fishers Fire Department spokesman Ron Lipps said the man was in the water for about 30 minutes and was alert and talking to rescuers before being taken to a hospital.
Lipps said the ice was only about two inches thick where the man fell through.
He was taken by ambulance to Methodist Hospital and is listed in good condition.
