INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Democrat John Gregg has conceded he lost the Indiana governor's race, but he hasn't lost his sense of humor.

Gregg said Tuesday night he called Republican Mike Pence to congratulate him on his victory in the race to succeed the GOP's Mitch Daniels. He says Pence has been a friend of his for nearly 30 years.

Gregg says the race was an "unbelievable ride" and he apologized to his supporters for falling short.

The former Indiana House speaker says he now knows the top places in Indiana to get the best ribs to eat, the greasiest hamburgers and -- if he has the right staff people with him -- the coldest beer.
