ANGOLA, Ind. (WANE) – It took firefighters over two hours and 300,000 gallons of water to extinguish over 600 rounds bales of straw and hay that caught fire and destroyed an Angola barn Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Angola Fire Department, just after 3 p.m., crews were called to Hornbrook Farms at 1795 N. Old St. Rd. 1 on a report of hay burning in the barn.
While en route, fire units reported they could see heavy smoke coming from the area.
Upon arrival, heavy fire was coming from the barn, which had over 600 round bales of hay and straw and farm equipment inside. Some of the equipment was able to be saved, but the barn itself and the bales were lost.
One person was treated by Steuben County EMS on the scene and taken to Cameron Hospital. No firefighters were hurt.
Officials are not sure how the fire started. The cause remains under investigation.
