INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (AP) - A drunk driving crackdown is now underway. Law enforcement agencies across Indiana started an impaired driving blitz Friday, August 17.
It's called Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over. The national campaign runs through September 3, covering the Labor Day holiday period.
Thousands of officers from more than 250 state and local agencies will take part. You'll see extra patrols on highways, as they look for impaired and dangerous drivers.
The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute says the 18-day effort Includes high-visibility enforcement patrols with a focus on high-profile Labor Day and end-of-summer events. It's being reinforced through extensive state and national advertising.
Last year in Indiana there were 140 fatalities and more than 2,000 injuries that were attributed to alcohol-related crashes.
