ANDERSON, Ind. (AP) -- A businessman has donated $20,000 to a central Indiana city toward replacing two police dogs that died from violent confrontations in the past month.

An Anderson police spokesman says the contribution from David Myers of Indianapolis should cover most of the expenses for replacing the dogs, which typically between $10,000 and $12,000 each. Myers is a vice president of F.E. Moran Inc. Alarms .

Detective Joel Sandefur tells The Herald Bulletin the department is grateful for that and other donations, including two girls who gave their lemonade stand profits.

One of the dogs was euthanized last week after being shot in the face by a man it was tracking. The other mistook an officer as an aggressor during a late July standoff and had to be shot.
