EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) -- A southwestern Indiana cosmetic surgeon is facing medical complaints from nine women who accuse her of botching their breast reconstruction surgeries, leaving some of them with infections or permanent injuries.
The women have filed complaints with the state against Dr. Alina Sholar. One of the complaints alleges that a patient developed her infections because Sholar used single-use breast-implant devices on her previously used in another patient.
Sholar's attorney Michele Bryant declined to comment on the cases' specifics, but she told the Evansville Courier & Press (http://bit.ly/XTeWLO ) "there's a lot more to the situation than I can comment about."
A panel of three medical professionals has heard only one of the nine cases so far and ruled in that case that Sholar met a reasonable standard of care.
