INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Democrat John Gregg is tapping the Indiana Senate's top Democrat to run with him for governor.
Senate Minority Leader Vi Simpson is set to join Gregg for a formal announcement Tuesday at the Statehouse. A Democrat who spoke with Simpson on Monday told The Associated Press the veteran Bloomington senator was tapped for lieutenant governor. The Democrat spoke on condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized to comment ahead of Gregg's announcement.
Simpson's addition should help solidify support for Gregg among liberals. Her pick comes shortly after Republican candidate Mike Pence added state Rep. Sue Ellspermann to his ticket.
Gregg, Pence and Libertarian Rupert Boneham are running in the November general election. Gov. Mitch Daniels is barred from seeking a third term.
