SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WANE) - Part of a vacant Chapin Street building collapsed onto the vehicle that plowed into it early Saturday morning, trapping the driver. Three passengers managed to escape the crushed car by themselves and get out of the rubble.
The South Bend Fire Department tactical rescue team was called to extricate the driver from his buried vehicle.
There is no immediate information on the conditions of the driver or passengers. All were taken to the hospital.
The St. Joseph County Police Fatal Alcohol Crash Team was sent to the scene to investigate the crash, a standard procedure in serious and fatal accidents.
