BSU weighs reduction in smoking areas

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) -- Smokers could soon find even fewer places to light up at Ball State University.

The Star Press reports ( http://tspne.ws/JCTsiG ) the university is considering reducing the number of areas where people can smoke.

Ball State banned smoking in university buildings and outdoor campus areas except for designated sites in 2008. Violators can be fined $50.

The university currently has 11 designated outdoor smoking sites, but President Jo Ann Gora says she wants to know whether that's too many for a smoke-free campus.

A group will study the issue and make a recommendation to Gora. Ball State spokeswoman Joan Todd says there is no timetable for it to convene.
